What is the Driver’s Meeting?
The Driver’s Meeting is a private meeting that all drivers are required to attend and is conducted by the Race Director from IndyCar’s Competition department.
Who attends it?
In addition to the driver, his/her team manager attends, sometimes also the team owner, and if you’re a Champions Club member - you!
What do they discuss during this meeting?
The minute-by-minute schedule for pre-race is reviewed such as when pitlane opens for the griding of the cars, the start your engines command, and when the green flag drops along with the necessary formation. The drivers get their final instructions for the racing rules and guidelines like re-starts behind the pace car, pitlane speed, the length of the race, and post-race procedures including reporting to victory circle. Any necessary idiosyncrasies about racing around the track and instructions for entering and exiting pitlane are explained. Drivers and their team also have opportunity to ask questions which might influence race strategy.
